Mikko Makela is the writer/director of A Moment in the Reeds which is one of the first Finnish films with a queer narrative. It tells the story Leevi, a Finn returning home to help his father renovate the family lake house and Tareq, an asylum seeker from Syria hired to help work on the renovations. In the Queerscreen 25th Mardi Gras film Festival guide it was described as the sexiest film of the festival.
