Elevan O'Clock #24 - Mikko Makela - A Moment in the Reeds

Mikko Makela is the writer/director of A Moment in the Reeds which is one of the first Finnish films with a queer narrative.

It tells the story Leevi, a Finn returning home to help his father renovate the family lake house and Tareq, an asylum seeker from Syria hired to help work on the renovations.

In the Queerscreen 25th Mardi Gras film Festival guide it was described as the sexiest film of the festival.

Elevan O'Clock #18 Derek and Will

Derek Dodge and Will C. Sullivan are filmmaking husbands.  They specialise in making "improv" films.  Their latest dramatic collaboration "The Ring Thing"  is showing at Queerscreen's 25th Mardi Gras Film Festival and at Melbourne Queer Film Festival in 2018.  Here we talk about filmmaking, creative and life partnerships.   My favourite piece of advice is "Don't wait for someone to give you permission" if you want to make a film  (or any creative pursuit).

If you would like to watch their first feature film collaboration "That's Not Us"  you can watch it on SBS on Demand.

Lisa Rose ,Queer Screen and the importance of queer film festivals.

I am a little bit of a film nerd, and by little I really mean a quite large one.

Here I chat to Lisa, who is the Vice-President of Sydney-based queer film festival, Queer Screen.  We chat about why a LGBTIQ film festival is still important and what films and tv shows we love.
